The Magic of Motown a major attraction for fab fundraiser

OVER 200 people attended a fabulous fundraising Motown Magic night at the Mayfair Hotel on Saturday 4 February 2017.

The event was organised by Rachelle and her husband Jim Hopley, the chairman of Jersey Cheshire Home, Donna Abel and Kenny McDonald and it was attended by over 200 happy Islanders. Those four individuals are all doing Trek Patagonia 2017 to raise funds for the home.

A whole raft of classic tracks saw a packed dance floor for most of the night. Three specialist Motown/Northern Soul DJs played a host of some of the best dance tracks of the 60s and 70s.

And the event also featured some familiar faces as a number of residents and staff members joined the throngs who thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful evening out. The event also featured a buffet and raffle and proved to be a roaring success.

Among the residents who attended included Wendy Renouf, who was accompanied by her husband Deputy Richard Renouf and Jono Rothwell was even spotted on the dance floor.

There were many highlights of the evening but one of them had to be the huge snaking chain on the dancefloor to the tune of The Locomotion.

Classics such as You Can’t Hurry Love by The Supremes, Needle in a Haystack by The Miracles and It Takes Two by Marvin Gaye were among the songs that kept getting a mixed range audience on to its feet.

However, it must be said that most of those in attendance would probably describe themselves as mature – well most of the time!!
