TWO MENUS. TWO TEAMS. ONE WINNER.
16 NOVICE CHEFS BATTLED IT OUT IN SHAUN RANKIN’S KITCHEN INFERNO, RAISING MONEY FOR JERSEY CHESHIRE HOME. BUT COULD THEY STAND THE HEAT?
The two teams, made up of sixteen novice chefs had just one month to train before the head-to-head cook off in the Highlands Academy Kitchen last November. Seventy guests and Shaun judged their efforts. Diners were served by the College’s catering students, and LIVE action from the kitchen and broadcast into the restaurant, so every move and mistake was seen!
“This Kitchen Inferno has been tough, there is no doubt about it. We upped the number of diners and we gave them a complex menu from Ormer but they completely rose to the challenge and they should be very proud. I don’t think the diners will forget this evening in a hurry and for all the right reasons. The fundraising and generosity was phenomenal and I know it will mean a great deal to Jersey Cheshire Home. Congratulations must go to both teams and their team leaders Rob Veron and Cengiz Somay.” Shaun Rankin, Chef Proprietor, Ormer Restaurant
The event has so far raised an amazing £15,000 for The Jersey Cheshire Home – which is just brilliant. A BIG thank you goes in no particular order to Le Masurier, Blue Islands, First Names Group, Fungi Delecti, Cimandis, Shaun Rankin, the staff at Ormer, Highlands College (amazing staff), our own Cheshire Home staff, the amazing guests who got to savour the work of both teams, those who donated raffle prizes and auction items, Margaret Thompson for fundraising such a massive amount and Freedom Media without whom the event would not have been possible or as amazing as it was. Of course there were also 16 amazing chefs who came together as individuals split into two teams to go head to head to take on a huge challenge like nothing they had ever done before. Out of such challenges friendships and bonds are made and above all great memories that last forever. The amount of work, effort and time dedicated to the event by each chef was amazing and to see it all come together shows what can be achieved by working together. Take a bow each of you.
Kitchen Inferno will be back, so keep an eye on our website for information!
