Last Sunday (3rd July) a motorcycle ride-out took place especially for Jersey Cheshire Home resident Jacqui Tyler – whose dream was to ride on a motorcycle.
Jacqui is 71 years old and wheelchair bound, having suffered with progressive Multiple Sclerosis for the last 25 years. A resident at Jersey Cheshire Home for the last 16 years she leads a happy life here and is never without a smile on her face. She regularly goes out on day trips, takes part in activities and uses the Home’s Aquatherapy pool as a form of relaxation and to help aid her mobility.
Increasingly aware that her condition is progressing Jacqui was keen to achieve her dream ride as soon as possible and thanks to Tony Maindonald and Mark Shales, her dream has now come true – she led the 50-strong ride out from JCH to La Braye on Sunday in the side car of Mark’s classic Royal Enfield Bullet Electra!
Jacqui had a magical time and thankfully the weather held. She loved the sensation of riding in the side car of Mark’s classic bike, taking in all the sights from her unique vantage point. The sound of the engines that surrounded her made it an experience she’ll never forget!
David Lord, General Manager at JCH commented “This Ride Out was a truly wonderful opportunity for Jacqui! Myself, the other residents and all our staff were thrilled and somewhat emotional to see her enjoying herself so much – she didn’t stop grinning! We want to extend our grateful thanks to all the bikers who made it possible, particularly Tony and Mark.”

Jersey Cheshire Home’s aspiration this year is to help make their disabled resident’s dreams come true, no matter how big or small those dreams might be. The residents at Jersey Cheshire Home all suffer with severe physical disabilities that dramatically reduce and even bring to an end their ability to get out and enjoy life. Funds are currently being raised to make dreams, such as Jacqui’s, a reality.
