Jersey Cheshire Home residents and staff marked the home’s 35th birthday with a celebratory lunch at the Hotel Ambassadeur on Wednesday 25 July.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and all of the residents attended. The vast majority of the home staff were also at the event.
Everyone enjoyed a three course lunch and watched on as Care Manager Ann Appleton cut the cake to celebrate the milestone.
General Manager David Lord told the audience that he was at the opening ceremony. David was working as an hotelier then but had been involved in fundraising.
On July 25th 1983 Princess Alexandra and Group Captain Leonard Cheshire formally open the Home and paid tribute to the Foundation Committee led by Maldwyn Thomas, Robin Rumboll and June Beslievre
Roll Forward to July 25th 2003 Princess Alexandra visited the home to celebrate 20 years of operation and to formally name the “Leonard Matcham Respite Suite” which was under construction at the time.
On July 25th 2013 the residents were treated to a slap up Lobster Lunch at Ousaine and a great 30th birthday party was had by all (and the new lift was in commission at last)
He said that the party to celebrate 35 years was tinged with a little sadness as hour residents died during the first six months of 2018. ‘We also remember Barbara, who collapsed and died whilst at work in June.’ he said.
David said that he also wanted to thank all that the residents and staff have had to contend with the disruption, dirt, noise and discomfort of the Big Build.
